Florida Orienteering - Semi-Permanent Courses

The Orienteering courses listed below are available to use any time the park is open.

Semi-permanent "ROYO" (Run On Your Own) courses have no permanent markers set out in the woods. Instead they use proximity 'punching' through your smartphone's GPS.

Please refer to the instructions below for details on how to use these courses.

PAYMENT FOR USING PERMANENT AND ROYO COURSES
It requires substantial effort to make and maintain park maps and keep these self-service courses functioning. In addition, FLO is charged each time these courses are used. So please support our work by making a donation when you use these courses, just as you would if attending a live event. This is Honor System for now - please help us keep it that way!
Suggested donation for each team using these courses is $7 for FLO members, $9 for non-members.
You can use Zelle in your banking app to send these donations to us.

• In your bank's app, look for the Zelle logo or a button to "Send money with Zelle"
• On the recipient screen, look for "Pay with QR code" and scan the QR code below to send your donation to us.
• If your bank's app doesn't have Zelle QR code capability enter the recipient as "treasurer@floridaorienteering.org".
• Thank you for your support!

(Note that some parks charge entrance fees that are independent of any donation to FLO.)

How to use these courses

• Before you leave home:
  • Install the MapRun application on your phone.
  • Open the app and enter your personal details.
  • Print out the map you plan to use.
  • Use the w3w (What 3 Words) link for directions to the course start point.
• When you are ready to start:
  • Open the app and tap Select Event.
    On the new page, select the Folders icon on the tab bar at the top.
    Then select USA > Florida > Central Florida > Park Name.
  • Pick the course you want to do from the list of courses available at that park.
  • When MapRun returns to the main screen, tap Go to Start to see the map and course.
  • Run or walk through the Start point to start the course timer.
  • Navigate to the control points, IN NUMERICAL ORDER. MapRun will recognize when you are within 15m of a control and beep loudly to indicate a successful "punch". That control will turn Green to indicate that you have visited it.
  • When you reach the finish MapRun will stop the timer and upload your results.
