Congratulations to all 2009 Florida Orienteering Championship Winners and participants and thanks to the many Volunteers for what proved to be a very beautiful day in the upper 70's. This years event celebrated the 40,000 Florida Orienteering participant. Thank you Wekiwa Spings State Park for providing an excellent venue for event.
Being a championship event and the expectation for reaching our 40,000 participant we opted to merge the starting Florida Orienteering participants and that of the ROTC. With starts beginning prior to 10:00, this The Championship Event was on and participants began receiving maps at start and were off on multiple courses at 2 minute intervals. This process lasted till close to high noon before all were out on course. Thanks to all those who helped with registration, start and finish tables as the process ran flawlessly.
With great beginner level white and yellow courses many enjoyed the confidence building that comes with getting outdoors with map and compass in hand to navigate ones way to select control locations with some coming back to compete on the intermediate orange course. The green, red and blue courses however proved to have challenging control placements that truly brought out ones sense of adventure.
