Courses: WHITE | YELLOW | ORANGE | GREEN | RED | NOTES

Another nice, wonderful sunny day to boast about the spectacular weather that our events happen to fall into. The morning temps were a brisk 45, but upon arrival, I noticed several troops in formation. This told me that we were in for terrific competition with the JROTC.

I had brought some of the medals to give to the winners of the 2008 Championship held last month at Kelly Park since their schools were present along with some of the other individuals. I wrote a letter of appreciation and encouragement to all the winners which accompanied the medal.

This day started with all the controls being placed the day before solely by Kip Koelsch, was vetted by Eric Saggars and course designed by Bob (you know him). In the tally of times, I can see that the courses were for the endurance-minded since there were many OT/DNF on the GREEN/RED courses. I am not sure, maybe it was the unfamiliarity of terrain but there were some long legs. I had a gas! -- did I mention the great weather. NOTE to Course Designer: I would like to see some course designs with a remote START at the east end and a FINISH at Tucker Hill, not sure of the logistics but an interesting adventure.

We had many newcomers, old diehards and some inquisitors that found some personal insight. I confess everyone was willing to take it in stride. In closing out this event write-up, I must include the following persons that found the time to set aside to assist, great things happen when you have this. First mention goes to those named above for the course setup duties, then to Janet Putnam, George Kadel, John Ide, Donna Flugel for holding table duties and relief. Lastly to the pick up crew of Jerry Sirmans, Kevin and Susan Rowley from the 'GO BLUE' team, who come out to every event and found some extra energy to go out again and catch the close in controls. You can learn many tips by doing control pick-up all while off the clock. Jerry relishes the pickup for that reason.

One more note: At many events I get thanked by the JROTC members for our club -- and it is thanks to all our helpers that we can proceed. THANK YOU !!
